to complete its tasks For example, you must define what interfaces are considered trusted and untrusted; and if the wizard needs to fix something, such as create a login banner, you ll need to provide the information to do this The Security Audit wizard can be run in two modes: Perform security audit and One-step lockdown With the former approach, the wizard will display any issues it discovers and gives you the option of which ones you want the wizard to fix; with the latter approach, the wizard just fixes any issues that it sees Cisco recommends that you periodically run the Security Audit wizard to uncover any security issues that may have cropped up based on daily configurations you ve performed on your router

When you are making changes, in a few instances when you are in a particular configuration screen, they are directly applied to the router However, in most cases, you make all your changes once on a configuration screen, such as adding and editing ACLs from the Firewall and ACL button s Edit Firewall/ACL Policy tab and then at the bottom of the screen clicking the Apply Changes button If you don t like your changes and want to abandon them (assuming you haven t already pushed them down to the router), you can click the Discard Changes button (to the right of the Apply Changes button) When either using a wizard from the Create tab or making configuration changes from the Edit tab, you can take advantage of the built-in help on the router Clicking the Help button at the top of the window will open a new web browser window that displays the configuration options of the screen in which you are currently working

Interface Information
In Figure 18-4, the Details button is selected, which splits the screen into two areas: Interface List and Details About Interface In the Interface List portion of the screen, you can see the list of interfaces, the IP addresses, the operational statuses of the interfaces, and a description of the interfaces If you see (DHCP Client) appear next to an IP address, the router acquired the address via DHCP (acting as a DHCP client) on the respective interface

When you click the row for an interface in this section, you ll see some of the policies configured on the selected interface in the Details About Interface section In Figure 18-4, FastEthernet4 is selected in the top section, and in the bottom section you can see the IP address and subnet mask on the interface as well as any ACL applied to the interface (in this example, ACL 102 is applied in the inbound direction)
Interface Changes
To make changes to an interface, from the Edit Interface/Connection tab, click the interface first To enable or disable it, click the Enable or Disable button in the topright corner To change the properties of an interface, click the Edit button A new window will pop up, as shown in Figure 18-5Tabs at the top allow you to change the various properties of the interface The Connection tab is in the foreground, where you can change the IP address and subnet mask of the interface Once you make your changes, click the OK button to apply them directly to the router When making changes to Interfaces, click the OK button and they are immediately delivered to the router Other Edit tabs typically allow you to make multiple changes within SDM, where you then deliver them to the router by clicking the Apply Now button at the completion of your changes
