The Citrix Streaming Profiler is used to create application profiles to deliver applications to your users by streaming them to their desktops or the XenApp Servers With the Profiler, administrators can build an application that includes several operating system targets to match the variety of user environments The Profiler is an application that enables you to prepare Windows applications, web applications, browser plug-ins, files, folders, and Registry settings in order to stream them to users workstations The Profiler machine should be one that closely represents the environment your end users will be using to run the streamed applications The Profiler must be installed on one of the following servers or workstation types: Windows 2000 Professional, Service Packs 3 and 4 Windows XP Professional, Service Packs 1 and 2 Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition, Service Pack 1

CAUTION: You must install the Streaming Profiler on a separate, newly installed computer with an operating system that matches the typical operating system of your end users client computers or the XenApp Servers We recommend using virtualization technology to build both a server that matches your XenApp farm and a workstation (or workstations) that matches your client environment This extends to drive letters and languages For example, if the target system has a main drive letter of G:\, the Profiler should also contain a main drive letter G:\ This will help minimize application profiling problems The key to the Profiler is that it is on a machine that does not have any other roles on the network It is solely used for creating application profiles We will discuss this in more detail later in this chapter

When a user runs an application enumerated by Program Neighborhood Agent or through a Web Interface site, the Streaming Client finds the correct application in the profile on the file server, sets up the isolation environment on the client, and then streams the application from the file server to the safety of the isolation environment set up on the client For more information on this, refer to the next few sections

Profiles: Not Just for Users Anymore
This section describes how to install and configure the Streaming Profiler and how to create an application profile for use on your servers and workstations Once a Profiler is installed and configured, you can begin creating profiles for delivering applications to the server as published applications or stream them to workstations for both online and offline use We will be using Office 2007 to stream to the XenApp Server and workstations for access We will demonstrate how to configure the application for access from the Web Interface and Program Neighborhood Agent and configure failover when streaming to the desktop is unavailable
The Profiler Installation and Configuration
After you determine which client and server target types you will be building profiles for, build a simple and clean replica of those environments Ensure that all the drive letter mappings, language settings, service packs, and hotfix levels are as close to the targets as possible

TIP: Even though multiple operating systems are available when building an application profile on a single Profiler, it is a good idea to try to match the Profiler s operating system to the target s operating system when at all possible This will offer the best success rate of the profiled application To install the Profiler, follow these steps: 1 Insert the XenApp Components CD into the workstation you want to use to profile resources 2 To install the Profiler, in the Autorun window, choose Presentation Server Utilities | Install Citrix Streaming Profiler for Windows 3 Choose a language for the installer interface 4 Accept the licensing agreement 5 Take the defaults and finish the installation 6 After installation, restart the workstation
