The 2600 series is Cisco's high-end line of branch office routers They are ideally suited for branch offices that require advanced features and extensive modularity in a moderateperforming, reasonably priced router As for feature sets, the 2600 series supports all of the features of the 2500 series plus the addition of voice features similar to those found in the 1700 series In addition, the 2600 series includes three different levels of processing power for better flexibility in demanding environments All of the 2600 series of routers include a single network module slot, dual WIC slots, and a single advanced integration module slot Each network module slot can contain a variety of network modules The following list includes available network modules shared with the 3600 series:

Finally, the Advanced Integration Module in the 2600 series can contain either an 8- Mbps hardware compression module or a DES/3DES hardware VPN encryption module To illustrate the various module slots, the rear view of a 2600 series router is depicted in Figure 12-6

Figure 12-6: The rear view of a 2611 router As for the models in the line, the 2600 series includes the 2610, 2611, 2612, 2613, 2620, 2621, 2650, and 2651 The 261x models include a 40-MHz processor for a maximum forwarding rate of around 15,000 PPS; the 262x models include a 50-MHz processor, for a forwarding rate of around 25,000 PPS; and the 265x models include an 80-MHz processor for a forwarding rate of around 37,000 PPS The 2610 model includes only a single RJ-45 10-Mbps Ethernet port; the 2611 model includes dual RJ-45 10-Mbps Ethernet ports; the 2612 model includes a single RJ-45 10Mbps Ethernet port and one RJ-45 4/16-Mbps Token Ring port; the 2613 model includes a single RJ-45 4/16-Mbps Token Ring port; the 2620 model includes a single RJ-45 10/100Mbps Ethernet port; the 2621 model includes dual RJ-45 10/100-Mbps Ethernet ports; the 2650 model includes a single RJ-45 10/100-Mbps Ethernet port; and the 2651 model includes dual RJ-45 10/100-Mbps Ethernet ports After considering the various performance, LAN, WAN, voice, and feature sets available for the 2600 series, it's easy to see how it is a perfect replacement for the 2500 series It is also an excellent routing platform in nearly any branch office scenario For more information about the 2600 series, visit http://wwwciscocom/warp/public/cc/pd/rt/2600/prodlit/indexshtml
