A DVD Hybrid disc is one that contains both DVDVideo information, and computer-readable information in the ROM zone of the DVD (The Apple manual calls this a DVD-ROM disc) These discs are playable in both set-top DVD players and computers with DVD players, but the ROM zone data is only accessible to the computer A set-top DVD player will be able to process all of the DVD-Video content, but will ignore the ROM data The method of creating a DVD-Hybrid disc varies, depending on which version of DVD Studio Pro you are using When preparing your DVD-ROM files, pay attention to the naming convention (see Joliet Files, later in this chapter)

CREATE your DVD-Video project as usual If you are using the DVD@ccess function, be sure to make your links while you are Authoring Before you BUILD the DVD-Video volume onto your Hard Drive, be sure to set the DVD-ROM folder in the DISC Property Inspector
Making a DVD Hybrid Disc in DVD Studio Pro 4
We have already seen that both the Disc Properties Window and the Format Dialog display contain settings where the DVD-ROM function can be enabled
Figure 14-31 The Format Dialog showing DVD-ROM Data setting
Adding DVD-ROM data to any DVD-Video project is very easy in DVD Studio Pro; just activate the DVD-ROM feature in the Disc Properties, or the Format dialog, and Choose (select) the folder containing the DVD-ROM files for that project They will be added to the root level of the finished DVD

LOAD the ROM material for your finished disc into the DVD-ROM Folder BEFORE you build This folder will not appear in the build, but its CONTENTS will have been
Building and Formatting
moved to the root level directory of your finished DVD BUILD & FORMAT a DVD-R or a DLT Master tape using DVD Studio Pro s own output capabilities The finished disc will include all contents that were in the DVDROM Folder specified in the Disc Properties
Bring the ROM material into the root level of your DVD folder
Creating a DVD-Hybrid in DVD Studio Pro 12
To create a DVD disc, which can also deliver computer-readable material in the DVD-ROM zone of the disc (especially useful for creating File-enabled discs using DVD@ccess), follow these steps:
Figure 14-34 A HybridDVD Folder
BURN a DVD-R with Roxio TOAST 501 or better or WRITE a DLT Master tape with TOAST 501 or better
Making a Hybrid Disc Using DVDSP V10-12 and Toast Titanium
CREATE your DVD-Video project as usual If you are using the DVD@ccess function, be sure to make your links while you are Authoring BUILD the DVD-Video volume onto your Hard Drive
Making a Hybrid Disc Using DVDSP V10-12 without Toast
TIP! THIS USES AN UNDOCUMENTED FEATURE! If you put a folder called DVD-ROM Data into your BUILD folder, DVD Studio Pro will automatically put the contents of that folder into your finished DVD-R, or DLT when you use the BUILD and FORMAT COMMAND If you just BUILD, you will have to add this data yourself
CREATE the DVD-Video project as usual If you are using the DVD@ccess function, be sure to make your links while you are Authoring CREATE an EMPTY Build folder on your Hard Drive (be sure you have enough room) Inside of it, create a folder named DVD-ROM Data, exactly DO NOT create any other folders

your filenames comply with ISO9660 standards (aka 83 file names MYTEXTDOC, for example) These short file names will pass through DVD Mastering controls without flagging errors upon analysis Longer names may be flagged as errors, even if they are not!
DVD@ccess Installers
If you DON T use the BUILD & FORMAT command, be sure to include the DVD@ccess INSTALLERS onto your DVD disc, or the recipient will not be able to utilize the DVD@ccess function on their machines The Installers are located in the RESOURCES folder of the DVD Studio Pro Folder in OS 9 They are located inside the DVD Studio Pro application bundle in OS X Command-click the application Icon to open it up and locate the resources folder inside
TIP! DVD Studio Pro will AUTOMATICALLY put these into a finished disc if you use the BUILD and FORMAT command If you just BUILD, it won t
