When you install Acrobat, the install utility detects any TWAIN devices you have attached to your computer As a note of interest, TWAIN originated from Rudyard Kipling s The Ballad of East and West ( and never the twain shall meet ), which, when the technology was in its infancy, reflected the difficulties of connecting a scanner to a personal computer However, many people think TWAIN stands for Technology Without An Interesting Name A TWAIN device contains drivers that convert the optical input from a scanner or digital camera into digital format that can be recognized by computer software The TWAIN devices you have attached to your computer are listed on a drop-down menu in the Create PDF From Scanner dialog box
