And since this is digital editing, you can copy and paste clips along the Timeline as you see fit But first, follow these steps: 1 Preview each clip separately 2 Trim or split each clip according to what you want to show in the video In the case of our four shots, you should trim each beginning and end so that they come in late and go out early 3 Review each clip individually after you ve trimmed them 4 Review the whole sequence of trimmed clips, with an eye toward continuity This is a raw edit Next we want to refine it somewhat Let s split Shot 1 and shuffle the order a bit We should have Shot 1 trimmed so that it shows the ball beginning its roll down the ramp and ending just before it hits the bottom Admittedly, it s a short clip But let s make it shorter: 1 Using the Preview pane to guide you, split the clip at the point where the ball is midway down the ramp Use the Next Frame button in Preview, as shown in Figure 2-12 2 Choose Clip | Split 3 With Shot 1 now trimmed and split into two, select the second half of the split in the Timeline See Figure 2-13 4 Click and drag that clip over the top of the following clip, and place it after it in the Timeline Step 4 shows you how to easily play with the clip order of your movie Don t feel obligated to keep the adjustment you ve just made

5 Review the complete clip sequence from beginning to end 6 Trim Shot 2 so that it shows the ball midway through its trip down the ramp When you review the sequence in Preview, you ll now see how the shots are starting to make a new, contrived sense We can repeat and adjust this type of editing for each of the clips in our sequence We want to make the simple event of a ball rolling down a ramp more interesting So we cut into each clip, trim and split, making each an element of the whole sequence Do not be afraid to copy and paste your clips along the Timeline

Apply Video Effects
After we have our clips in sequence, we can start to look at the transitions between them Movie Maker keeps rudimentary transitions, effects, and speed controls under Video Effects To apply video effects, follow these steps: 1 To access the Video Effects pane, click the Edit Movie drop-down arrow in the Movie Tasks pane and choose View Video Effects The Collections pane changes to become the Video Effects pane 2 You can apply any of the effects by dragging the Video Effects thumbnail from the Video Effects pane directly on top of the clip you want to effect in the Timeline 3 Alternatively, you can choose your effects and apply them from the menu That is, choose Clip | Video | Video Effects When the Add or Remove Video Effects dialog box appears (see Figure 2-14), choose the effect or effects from the Available Effects column and click Add to add them to the Displayed Effects column 4 Click OK, and the effects are immediately applied to the clip If you don t like the effects once they re applied, you can remove them through the same dialog box (Clip | Video | Video Effects) Remember that these effects aren t permanent, so you always have the ability to remove or adjust them Since our four-shot sequence is very short, and probably very fast, there is one effect we may want to apply to all the clips: Slow Down, Half But how do we apply this effect to all of our clips at once You d think that all you d have to do is hold down the shift key on your keyboard and move your cursor across the Timeline to the last clip and click again to select
