How to Do Everything with Microsoft Office Word 2007
Work with Track Changes
Once you ve chosen how to display tracked changes, you re ready to track changes to a document Start by turning Track Changes on in any of the following ways:
Ribbon Choose Review | Tracking | Track Changes (Click the top part of the Track
Changes button, as shown next You can also click the drop-down part of the button and then choose Track Changes from the drop-down menu, but doing so takes more effort)
Keyboard Press CTRL-SHIFT-E Status Bar If you ve displayed the Track Changes indicator on the status bar, click it to
toggle Track Changes on or off, as shown next To display the Track Changes indicator, right-click the status bar, click the Track Changes item on the Customize Status Bar menu, and then click anywhere in the document
With Track Changes on, Word starts tracking the changes you make to a document Here are some quick examples:
When you delete a word and replace it with other text, or select a word and then type
over it, Word marks the deletion and the insertion The next illustration shows the deletion with strikethrough, the insertion with underline, and the changed line with a vertical bar to its left
CHAPTER 10:
Share, Edit, and Revise Documents
In Draft view and Outline view, Word displays all the changes inline You can hover the
mouse pointer over a change to pop up a ScreenTip showing who made the change and when, as in this example
In Print Layout view, Web Layout view, and Full Screen Reading view, Word displays
the changes in balloons with a line connecting each change to its text (depending on the settings you chose) Here is an example
Where one line has several changes, it can be difficult to tell which is which However,
you can click a balloon to display a heavier line to its source, as shown here, or you can hover the mouse pointer over a change to display a ScreenTip showing its details
Balloons can be great for seeing the details of the changes, but they tend to get in the way when you re editing the document yourself You can switch balloons on and off easily by choosing Review | Tracking | Balloons, and then choosing Show Revisions In Balloons, Show All Revisions Inline, or Show Only Comments And Formatting In Balloons from the drop-down menu
