Word applies the column arrangement you choose To create more complex columns, or to control the width and spacing of each column, follow these steps: 1 Select the text or document part (as in step 1 of the previous list) 2 Choose Page Layout | Page Setup | Columns | More Columns Word displays the Columns dialog box (see Figure 11-2) 3 In the Presets area, select the column arrangement you want (see step 2 of the previous list for descriptions) 4 If necessary, use the Number Of Columns check box to increase the number of columns 5 Select the Line Between check box if you want Word to display and print a vertical line between each pair of columns 6 In the Width And Spacing area, clear the Equal Column Width check box if you want to be able to create unequal columns (Word selects this check box if you choose the Two arrangement or the Three arrangement) 7 Use the Width text box and Spacing text box to set the width and spacing for each column (Scroll up and down the list if you have more than three columns) 8 In the Apply To drop-down list, verify that Word has selected the correct part of the document for example, Selected Text, This Section, Whole Document, or This Point Forward
