Once you ve inserted one or more section breaks in a document, you may find it helpful to add the Section readout to the beginning of the status bar so that you can see which section the insertion point is currently in To do so, right-click the status bar, select the Section check box on the Customize Status Bar menu, and then click anywhere in the document to hide the menu again
How to Do Everything with Microsoft Office Word 2007
There s a Hidden Section Break at the End of the Document
Each document has a hidden section break at the end, hidden in the last paragraph mark the paragraph mark that appears when you create a new document and that you can t delete When the document contains only one section, this paragraph mark contains the page formatting for the entire document When you create another section, this paragraph mark contains the page formatting for the final section only
Delete a Section Break
To delete a section break, place the insertion point before it, and then press DELETE There s one complication: When you delete a section break, the section before the break becomes part of the section after the break So if, for example, you delete the section break between Section 2 and Section 3 of your document, Section 2 becomes part of Section 3 and receives its formatting Confusingly, though, because you ve deleted Section 2, Section 3 now becomes Section 2
Change the Margins
To make your documents look good, you ll often need to increase or decrease the top, bottom, left, and right margins Some printers can print all the way up to the edges of a sheet of paper but most printers can t For example, most laser printers can print only up to 02 inches or 05 inches from the edges of the paper Usually, it s a good idea to leave plenty of margin, both for the printer s needs and for those of a person holding the document If you tell Word to print closer to the edge of a sheet of paper than your printer can handle, Word tells you that the margins are set outside the printable area of the page Word offers to let you continue, but normally you ll do better to change the margins so that they fall within the printable area before printing
Change the Margins Quickly by Using a Preset Margin
The quick and easy way to set margins for a document is to choose Page Layout | Page Setup | Margins, and then choose one of the preset options on the Margins panel (see Figure 5-1) The choices are Normal, Narrow, Moderate, Wide, Mirrored (which creates mirrored margins for facing pages in a book), or Office 2003 Default (which uses the same measurements as Word 2003 s default settings did)
