Many of Word s canned headers and footers come with odd and even page setups, so you may not need to create odd and even headers and footers of your own
Create Different Headers and Footers in Different Sections
To create different headers and footers in different sections of the same document, divide the document into sections as described in the section Break a Document into Sections, earlier in this chapter You can then create a different header or footer (or both) in each section The easiest way to get all your headers into place is to go to the start of the document (for example, press CTRL-HOME), choose Insert | Header & Footer | Header, and then work through each section s headers in turn Choose Design | Navigation | Next Section to move to the next section s header or Design | Navigation | Previous Section to move back to the previous section Word includes the section number in the header s tag, as shown here, so you can see where you are without having to look at the Section readout on the status bar
Word automatically links the header and footer in the second section and subsequent sections to the previous header and footer, giving you the same header and footer all the way through your document For example, if you have a document with two sections and you create a header in the first section, Word automatically carries that header through to the second section To create separate headers and footers, choose Design | Navigation | Link To Previous to turn off this link Issue the command again to establish a link to the previous section if needed
