CHAPTER 4: Working with HTML Documents
Previewing an Edited Page in a Browser
When you re editing a page, you don t see how your changes will look in a Web browser The Contribute editor gives you a good idea of what the page will look like when published, but you still see dashed lines around table rows and columns, as well as markers for invisible elements such as named anchors One way to know how your edited page will look in a Web browser is to publish it You can, however, preview the page in a browser prior to publishing it by following these steps:
1 Select the page draft you want to preview in a browser You can preview
the page you re currently editing or choose another page draft from the Pages panel
2 Choose File | Preview In Browser Contribute displays a dialog box notifying
you that a copy of the draft will be placed in a temporary folder on your Web site server The file will be deleted when you publish the finished page
3 Click OK Contribute publishes a copy of the draft to a temporary folder
Your default Web browser launches and displays a copy of the draft you are editing When you are finished previewing the page, close the browser window to return to Contribute

How to Do Everything with Macromedia Contribute
How to
Create a new Web page Copy an existing Web page Work with document templates Set page properties Test pages When the Web sites you edit made their debut on the Internet, the content displayed was determined by your Web designer As the business or service for which the Web site was designed evolves, the content on the pages needs to be updated You can edit the pages by adding content from Word or Excel documents, as outlined in the previous chapter, or you can edit existing elements such as text and images You can add as much content as you want to a Web page However, at some point a Web page may become so large that it takes too long to load into a user s browser, or the page is so long, viewers have to scroll excessively to view the content When a Web page gets to this point, you should consider creating a new Web page for the additional content You can also create a new Web page when you need to display information about a new product or service offered by your company or organization In this chapter, you ll learn to add content to your Web site by creating new Web pages
Creating New Web Pages
When you decide to create a new Web page, you can do so easily with Contribute You can create a page that captures the look and feel of the other pages on the Web site, or you can start with a blank slate and let your artistic muse dictate the direction the new page will take You can use any of the following as the basis for a new Web page: A copy of the page you are currently viewing A blank Web page A preset Contribute template
