When you install Contribute, the install utility searches your hard drive and creates an association to the default program your system associates with each file type For example, if you have Microsoft Word installed on your computer, it is usually the program associated with the doc filename extension If you wish, you can associate more than one program with a file type; this option is useful when you install new image-editing software and you want to associate an image file type with your new software To associate an image-editing program with an image file type, follow these steps:

1 Choose Edit | Preferences The Preferences dialog box opens 2 Click the File Editors category The Preferences dialog box is reconfigured,

file type The filename will have the exe extension, which means that the file is an executable file For example, the filename that launches Fireworks MX is Fireworksexe

Editors list for the file type If you want the added program to be the primary editor for the file type, follow the instructions in step 7

7 In the Preferences dialog box, while the application name is still selected,

click the Make Primary button to make the program the primary editor for the file type When you make a program the primary editor, you can launch the program from within Contribute to edit an image of the associated file type You can change the primary editor for a file type at any time (for example, when you install additional software that supports a file type currently edited by another program)

After you specify an external image editor, you can use it to edit an image that is displayed in a Web page you have already published or to edit an image that you select from a folder on your Web site

You can edit images that are displayed in Web pages that have been previously published You cannot edit images saved in page drafts that have not been previously uploaded to your Web site To edit an image in a Web page using your primary image-editing program, follow these steps:

2 Select the image you want to edit 3 To launch the external image-editing program associated with the image

file type, do one of the following: Choose File | Edit Image Right-click, and then choose Edit Image from the context menu After choosing one of the above, Contribute launches the external image editor
