Crop tool
Crop area FIGURE 11-4
You can remove unwanted areas of an image with the Crop tool
3 Click on the image and drag diagonally to define the cropping area The
cropping area is the area of the image that will remain after you complete the cropping operation As you drag your cursor across the image, a bounding box appears, showing you the current size of the cropping area

the bounding box contains the contents you want to preserve
5 You can modify the cropping area by doing one of the following:
Change the height of the cropping area by moving your cursor toward the top or bottom of the bounding box When your cursor becomes a vertical line with two arrowheads, click and drag up or down Release the mouse button when the bounding box is the desired height
CHAPTER 11: Editing Images in an External Image-Editing Program
Change the width of the cropping area by moving your cursor toward either side of the bounding box When your cursor becomes a horizontal line with two arrowheads, click and drag right or left Release the mouse button when the bounding box is the desired width Change the width and height of the cropping area by moving your cursor toward a corner of the bounding box When your cursor becomes a diagonal line with two arrowheads, click and drag diagonally Release the mouse button when the bounding box is the desired size Move the bounding box to a different area of the image by moving your cursor toward the center of the bounding box When your cursor becomes a vertical and horizontal line with four arrowheads, click and drag the bounding box to a different location Release the mouse button when the bounding box is in the desired location
6 Double-click anywhere inside the bounding box to crop the image
Color Correcting an Image

When you receive an image that needs to be displayed in a Web page, and the image lacks visual punch, you can give the image more visual appeal by modifying its brightness or contrast This is not a cure-all for an image that is very dark or very light, but you can touch up an image that is slightly off kilter and achieve good results when you display it in a Web page To adjust an image s brightness and contrast in Paint Shop Pro, follow these steps:
1 Select the image and launch Paint Shop Pro from within Contribute using
one of the methods outlined previously in the section Launching an External Image Editor Alternatively, while in Paint Shop Pro, you can select an image from a folder on your computer
