As mentioned earlier, it is common to have objects that cover one another You often place objects on a slide in a certain order, only to find that the wrong object is on top Reordering objects lets you determine which object appears on top To reorder an object, select it, and choose Draw | Order from the Drawing toolbar Choose one of these options on the submenu:

You have already moved many objects in PowerPoint Generally, you select the object, move the cursor over the object until you get the cross hairs, and then drag the object You can precisely position an object using the Position tab of the Format AutoShape dialog box (Right-click any object, and choose Format AutoShape) In the section Lay Out Your Slides with Precision, later in this chapter, I explain other techniques for positioning objects precisely
Duplicate Objects
When you want two objects to be the same size and shape, you should draw the first object and then duplicate it, rather than try to draw it exactly the same the second time There are two ways to duplicate objects:
Select the object, copy it to the clipboard (CTRL-C), and then paste it back onto your
slide (CTRL-V)
Select the object, and duplicate it (CTRL-D or Edit | Duplicate)
You have no control over the location of the duplicate, but it is selected when it appears so you can immediately drag it to a new location
Delete Objects
To delete an object, select it, and press DEL In 3, I discussed how text placeholders are in Edit Text mode when you select them Pressing DEL just deletes one of the characters of the text Callouts follow the same rule To delete them, click the border and then press DEL Pressing BACKSPACE also deletes any selected object or objects
CHAPTER 5: Add Art and Graphic Objects
Should be in back Use Send to Back
Should be one layer forward Use Bring Forward Should be in front Use Bring to Front
The pictures are now in the correct order

By reordering the objects on this slide, you can ensure that important information is not obscured Thanks to Quannon CAD Systems at http://wwwquannoncom
When you press CTRL-X (or choose Edit | Cut), the selected object is deleted and moved to the clipboard You can then paste it on another slide or even in another application

Resize and Scale Objects
When you select an object, it has eight sizing handles four on the sides and four on the corners creating a selection rectangle For an irregular object such as a star-shaped AutoShape, the handles are placed on an imaginary rectangular border that bounds the object, as shown here
When you drag on a handle, the shape resizes in the direction you drag For example, if you drag outward on either the left or right handles, the shape becomes wider The side of the object opposite the handle you drag remains fixed The center and all other sides of the object are moved You can also resize an object so that the center remains fixed To do so, press CTRL while dragging a handle You may want to scale an object When you scale an object, you have the option to maintain the shape without any vertical or horizontal distortion PowerPoint calls this resizing proportionally because the vertical and horizontal remain proportional to each other
To resize proportionally from a corner, drag the opposite corner handle To resize proportionally from the center, press CTRL and drag any corner handle
As explained earlier in the Lay Out Your Slides with Precision section, you have exact control over the size of the object by using the Size tab of the Format AutoShape dialog box You can also scale the object by percentage on the Size tab Lines, arrows, and connectors have only two handles when selected When you drag one handle, the other end remains fixed You can change the endpoint s position freely, so that both the length and angle of the line are changed You can resize a line from its center by pressing CTRL as you drag When you press SHIFT and drag, the line s angle is held constant, and you can change only the line s length
