Types of Swatches
In commercial printing, there are two types of inks used: spot and process These colors can be combined in any project, though typically most jobs tend to be either 100 percent process or process plus one or two spot colors, for printing parts of a job like a logo and possibly adding a spot color printing plate for applying varnish over parts of a four-color process document All spot colors are global colors, but process colors can be global or non-global
Spot Colors
Spot colors are premixed inks that are used instead of, or in addition to, CMYK process inks, and therefore require their own plates during the printing process Spot colors are more reliable than CMYK process colors because they use a specific mix of inks They are, however, more expensive to use, and total color accuracy is not guaranteed from one production
