Convert Global and Spot Colors
To convert a process global or spot color into a process non-global or CMYK color, click the little square Process Color (or Spot Color) or CMYK buttons on the Color panel below the Tint slider When the color you re converting is a process color, you ll see the Process Color button, and when the color you re converting is a spot color, you ll see the Spot Color button
You can easily identify the different swatch types in the Swatches panel by how the swatch squares are displayed Process colors display as solid squares of color; global colors are shown as solid squares with a white triangle in the lower left corner; and spot colors are like global colors but with a black dot in the center of the white triangle (Refer to Figure 9-5)

Creating a Tint of a Color
To create and use a tint from any process global or spot color in your Swatches panel, select an object using that color, or select that color from the Swatches panel, and then drag the Tint slider on the Color panel, as shown in Figure 9-6, to adjust the tint range from 0% to 100% For example, a 25% tint allows only 25% of the ink to pass through a line screen, resulting in a much lighter version of the fully saturated color swatch If desired, you can save a tint as its own swatch by clicking the New Swatch button on the Swatches panel; that swatch will automatically be named after the original swatch along with the tint percentage, as in Pantone 7417 U 25%
