Working with Type
To use the Fit Headline command, select the Type tool, click in the line of text you want to fit without selecting any of the text, and select Type | Fit Headline If you happen to make further adjustments to the type, reapply the Fit Headline command to ensure the type fits snugly
Performing Other Type Commands
In addition to text formatting tools, Illustrator includes spell check, hidden character, change case, and smart punctuation commands in the Type menu to help you edit and improve the quality of your writing
Spell Check
To spell check your copy at any time, choose Edit | Check Spelling When the Check Spelling dialog box opens, click the Start button to begin the spell check process When questionable words are found, alternatives will appear in the Suggestions area and you ll have the option to Ignore, Ignore All, Change, Change All, or Add the word in question to Illustrator s spelling dictionary If desired, click the Options expander arrow to reveal additional spell-checking criteria When no more questionable works are found, the Spell Checker will be complete and you can click the Done button to exit the dialog box
Show Hidden Characters
Sometimes seeing those hidden non-printing characters such as soft returns, spaces between words, tabs, and hard returns at the end of paragraphs can help you with the formatting, alignment, and editing of your text To toggle this feature on and off, choose Type | Show Hidden Characters or press ALT+CTRL+I (Win) or OPT+CMD+I (Mac) to toggle the hidden characters on or off
