Clearing and Reducing Appearance Attributes
To completely remove any and all appearance attributes from a selection, click the Clear Appearance button on the bottom of the Appearance panel or choose the same command from the panel s options menu Immediately after choosing this command, the stroke and fill are set to None, the opacity and blending modes are returned to their default 100% and normal settings, and any previously applied effects will be completely removed If you want to clear only some of the attributes, consider using the Reduce To Basic Appearance command from the Appearance panel s options menu This command removes all effects, blending modes, and opacity settings
Removing Appearance Attributes
Sometimes trying out an idea is the only way to see if it will work When the application of an attribute or effect doesn t work, feel free to zap an unwanted attribute by selecting it in the Appearance panel and clicking the Delete Selected Item button along the panel s bottom edge You can also delete selected attributes by choosing the Remove Item command from the panel s options menu To select more than one attribute at a time, CTRL+click (Win) or CMD+click (Mac) each item until you have the ones you want selected before deleting them
The Graphic Styles Panel
The Graphic Styles panel is the panel you ll use to select and apply special multi-attribute/effect styles to your objects By default, the panel comes preloaded with a set of six default styles As you hover your mouse over each of them, you ll see the name of the style along with a screen tip, such as Shadow (ALT+click to add to the existing style Right-click for a larger preview) Along the bottom of the Graphic Styles panel, as well as in the panel s options menu, you ll find several buttons and commands to assist you in using the styles Here s what several of the commands do: New Graphic Style Creates a new graphic style based on the styles applied to the currently selected object, group, or targeted layer
