A sales order is a contractual agreement between a sales organization and a customer (sold-to party) for the supply of services or products over a specific period of time and in certain quantities A sales order copies all relevant information and master data from the customer master record and the material master record for a specific sales area It can be created with a reference to a preceding document, such as a quotation Should a document refer to a preceding document, the initial data is copied into the new document; thus, for example, the information of a quotation is copied from the quotation into the sales order This data is then transferred into the delivery document type, which uses the delivery or shipping information to create a delivery note Following the goods issue, the information is passed on to billing, if billing is necessary (Integration with other modules can happen throughout the process An interface with warehouse management, for example, could happen during the delivery process) The basic sales order process would look like Figure 2-8 As we saw from product proposals, each document (quotation, order, delivery, or invoice) is represented by a key document type For example, a standard delivery is LF and a standard invoice is F2 Sales document types can also be translated into other languages; thus, a sales order may be TA (German) or it may be OR (English) SAP has a language translation table where you can determine what a user should enter For example, if a user is logged on in English, the system will propose OR automatically Should the user enter OR, the system knows to use document
