Using the Freeze Tool
When you use the tools in the Liquify window, all the pixels around the brush will be affected If you want to protect portions of the image, you can apply the Freeze tool This will protect and freeze portions of the image so that they aren t distorted with the rest of the image 1 Choose the Freeze tool from the tools on the left of the Liquify window 2 Paint around the boy s chin to preserve the shape of his face, as shown in Figure 11-21A 3 Use the Push tool to alter the mouth, as shown in Figure 11-21B

Layer Effects
Layer effects can be used to add dimension and special effects to your layers with one simple click These effects can be easily applied and customized You are not limited to a single effect, because all the various effects can be mixed and matched to achieve a huge array of effects Once you have achieved an effect, it can be saved to a library and recalled in a single click as a layer style Even a beginner can achieve stunning results using layer effects Layer effects will not work on backgrounds or flattened images You must start with an active layer to apply the effect See s 4 and 5 for more on layers Let s apply a layer effect: 1 Choose a layer by clicking it in the Layers palette 2 Click the f button at the bottom of the Layers palette 3 Choose an effect from the drop-down menu, as shown in Figure 11-23A 4 In the Layer Style dialog box, make adjustments, as shown in Figure 11-23B 5 Click OK to apply the effect
