red overset text icon the same one you d see in a text frame that couldn t house all the text appears at the end of the path Once you ve typed your text, you can edit it and format it, just as you would type in a regular text frame To edit the text, click within the text (with either the Type or Type on a Path tool), press DELETE or BACKSPACE or use your mouse to select text you want to remove, and then press the appropriate key If you want to add text, click where it should go, and type it It s no different from adding or removing text in a frame Where the process does differ is in your ability to move the type along the path If, for example, you don t have room for the last word, but you would if you d clicked just a bit closer to the start of the path when you started typing your text, what to do Point to the box handles at the beginning of the text, and when your mouse pointer appears as a black arrow with a smaller arrow beneath it (shown in Figure 12-26), drag in the direction you want to push the text You can drag to the right to push the text farther along the path, or to the left if you want to pull the text and make it start closer to the beginning of the path

How to Do Everything: Adobe InDesign CS4
Use Align and Distribute
If you ve got more than one object on your page, chances are you ll be paying close attention to the relative positions of those objects Sometimes you can adjust their locations by eye, and sometimes that s fine it doesn t matter if something is precisely placed in relation to something else as long as an overall pleasing composition is achieved When you have several objects on a page, however, it can be important that they line up in some way captions lined up underneath photos, graphic items lined up along a margin, or a series of advertisements on a page lined up so that their bottom edges are all the same distance from the text or the bottom of the page You may also need to know that a series of items are all evenly spaced or distributed, which can be quite difficult to do without careful measurement What makes all this much easier than you might think The Align panel Shown in Figure 12-27, the Align panel allows you to control the placement of a group of objects, lining them up by their tops, bottoms, middles, or sides This can include distributing them evenly or solely affect their alignment To use the panel, simply select the objects to be aligned and/or distributed, using the SHIFT key to click each one and select them as a group, or use the Selection tool to draw a box around the objects and select them all at once, as also shown in Figure 12-27 Once the objects are selected, use the panel s buttons to determine the way the objects should align, choosing which common side should be used as the basis of their alignment and/or distribution After you ve aligned them, if you don t want their alignment and/or distribution to change, group them using the Object | Group command The command requires that all the objects you want grouped be selected, and it can be undone with the Object | Ungroup command
