To redefine an HTML tag, select the Redefine HTML Tag option from the New CSS Style dialog box The Name field becomes a Tag field Choose the HTML tag to which you want to apply the style from this field s drop-down list
Managing CSS Styles
If you want your custom definition to apply to all instances of this tag, make sure that only the name of the tag appears in the Tag field If you want your definition to apply only to particular instances of this tag, click to the right of the tag name in the Tag field, type a period, and then add a descriptive class name For instance, you might create the style pcopyright for the copyright message at the bottom of your page By adding a class name to the tag, you prevent all the paragraphs on the page from acquiring the same formatting as the copyright message This HTML-tag style definition applies to all level-one heading tags It makes the color of the text green:
h1 { color: #00FF00; }
By contrast, this style definition applies only to level-one heading tags that belong to a class called special:
h1special { color: #00FF00; }
To apply this style to a heading on your page, you must set the <h1> tag s class attribute like this:
<h1 class="special">This is a green headline</h1>
The h1special style doesn t affect the text in the following example at all because the class attribute appears in a paragraph tag, not a level-one heading tag:
<p class="special">This paragraph is the default color because the special class only applies to h1 tags</p>
