By default, when you open an e-mail attachment that contains a video, it plays in Windows Media Player But what if you d rather save those attachments and watch them in Media Center or have a specific type of file, like a wmv file, always open and play in Media Center It s possible! First decide what types of files you get in e-mails Most of the videos we get end in wmv That s a Windows Media Video file To configure that file type to always play in Media Center instead of in Media Player: 1 Open an e-mail that contains the type of file you want to open with Media Center Save the attachment to your hard drive 2 Locate the file, and right-click it Select Open With

ptions for obtaining media specifically movies are on the rise You can have movies mailed to you, rent them from a video store, or both You can buy DVDs from your local drugstore or megastore, too And now there s another way You can download them from the Internet and watch them on your PC Internet media is a little different from physical media Unlike Netflix or similar services, you can t rent and then keep a movie indefinitely You have a window of opportunity for watching the movie, and then it s disabled And even when you can purchase a movie and watch it as many times as you want, you still can t burn it to a DVD and take it to a friend s house (Some companies let you make a backup copy, but these copies won t play on traditional DVD players) And last but certainly not least, you have to install software on your computer to obtain and manage the media, and the idea of this often scares people away In this chapter, we ll work through all of this You ll learn how to find a provider, how to sign up, and how to install any required software You ll also learn what it takes to download and watch a movie from the Internet You ll learn about online media limitations, such as the inability to burn what you ve obtained to a DVD and watch it in a DVD player or at someone else s home, and if you can take it with you on your own portable media player Finally, you ll learn about additional online media options, including Internet TV, music and radio, news and sports, special events, podcasts, and more
