3 Windows Media Player can synchronize your own playlists, custom auto-playlists, or a set of built-in auto-playlists that comes with Media Player First, select Sync This Device Automatically (see Figure 14-8) On the left side of the window is a list of all of your personal playlists On the right side of the window is a list of all of the playlists Windows Media Player 11 will synchronize to the device when you connect it By default, Windows Media Player 11 adds several playlists, such as TV recorded in the last week, Pictures rated at 4 or 5 stars, and more Remove the playlists that you do not want to synchronize to your device by selecting them and clicking Remove If you have a music device that cannot show pictures or videos, make sure you remove the picture and video playlists 4 Remember that the priority of the playlist is governed by the order in which they appear in the list on the right side of the window Move the playlists that you want to be considered higher priority by selecting them one at a time and then clicking the up arrow in the lower-right corner of the window 5 If you want to shuffle the playlist, click Shuffle What Syncs, and then click Finish

advanced user, however, and you want more control over what gets copied to your media device during synchronization, you can use the advanced options in Media Player to personalize synchronization even further To access advanced options: 1 Click the Sync button, and then select your device s name 2 Click Advanced Options (see Figure 14-9) There are two tabs in the Advanced Options dialog box: Sync and Quality

On the Sync tab, you can rename your media device by typing a new name into the Device Name text box (see Figure 14-10) You can also disable automatic device synchronization by clearing the Start Sync When Device Connects option

How to Do Everything with Windows Vista Media Center
If you use your media device to store other information, such as documents or applications, you may want to set aside some storage space so that you have room to copy this information to the media device for storage This is easy to do from the Advanced Options menu: Just use the slider under the Reserve Space On The Device For Use By Other Programs option If your device doesn t support storing extra information outside of Windows Media Player 11, the reserved space slider will be disabled
The Quality Tab
On the Quality tab (see Figure 14-11), you can adjust the quality level for music files as well as videos and TV shows Select between setting the quality level automatically and manually setting the maximum quality level You can fit more data if you use the maximum-quality level
