In the input box at the bottom of this new window, type the message you want to send privately to that user and press ENTER The other person s replies appear in this window, too On many IRC networks, as soon as you connect, whisper windows start appearing as people decide to try to start private conversations with you You can respond by typing in the window s input box, or you can close the window DCC (described earlier in this chapter) is another way to carry on private chats Click a name on the list of channel participants, right-click to see a menu, and choose DCC | Chat from the menu that appears A DCC Chat window appears, and you can type messages to each other An advantage to using DCC is that if a netsplit happens, you two can still chat with each other, even if your servers can t communicate
Sending Files
To send a file (perhaps a picture of yourself or your family) to another user, follow these steps: 1 In the list of channel participants, click the name of the person to whom you want to send the file The name appears highlighted 2 Right-click the name and choose DCC | Send from the menu that appears You see the mIRC DCC Send dialog box, shown in Figure 13-4 3 Select the file and click Send mIRC sends the file to the other IRC user You can also start sending a file by clicking the DCC Send button in the toolbar When you see the mIRC DCC Send dialog box, set the Nick box to the nickname of the person to whom you want to send the file
