You can access and change your History files in IE the same way you can access and change your favorites In Windows 95/98/NT/ME, the IE History folder has the address C:\Windows\History if you haven t activated user profiles and has the address C:\Windows\Profiles\username\History if you have For Windows 2000 and XP, the folder is C:\Documents And Settings\username\Local Settings\ History You can edit it (and search through it) as you would any other folder In Mac versions of IE, you display History by clicking a tab on the right side of the viewing window The tab expands into an Explorer bar that displays a list of previously visited URLs in the order in which they were visited, organized into daily folders An entry in the History file can be clicked to open its corresponding web site, dragged to the Links bar, or dragged onto the desktop to create an Internet shortcut In Windows XP, every user has a history folder at C:\Documents And Settings\ username\Local Settings\History, and there s also one for all users, at C:\Documents And Settings\Default User\Local Settings\History In previous versions of Windows, the history folder is at C:\Windows\Profiles\username\History or at C:\Windows\ History On Macs, the IE history is stored as an HTML file (web page) named Historyhtml On Mac OS X, the file is in ~/Library/Preferences/Explorer On Mac OS 9 and earlier, it is in System Folder/Preferences/Explorer The History file keeps track of a set number of URLs, not a set period By default, History remembers the last 300 URLs you have visited with IE To reset this number, open the Internet Explorer Preferences box (choose Edit | Preferences), and click the Advanced tab under Web Browser Type a new number into the History box
