Using the Classic WS_FTP Interface
The conventional, or classic user interface for WS_FTP is the window shown in Figure 33-6 The window has two panels one on the left and one on the right The left panel displays files and folders on your PC (the local system); the right panel displays files and folders on the FTP server (the remote system)

Launching and Connecting
To start WS_FTP, choose Start | Programs | WS_FTP Pro (or WS_FTP LE), unless you installed the program in a different folder The main window appears On top of the main window, you see the Connection dialog box (shown in Figure 33-7) or the Session Properties dialog box (shown in Figure 33-8), depending upon which version of WS_FTP you are using Both dialog boxes perform the same functions: to allow you to choose which FTP server you wish to connect to or to add another server to WS_FTP s list WS_FTP comes preconfigured with connections to a variety of FTP servers If you want to connect to a different FTP server, see the next section, Adding a New Site

To connect to an FTP server from the Session Properties dialog box, set the Profile Name box to the server you want and click OK From the Connection dialog box, first click to expand the Sites folder in the Configured Sites box, click the server s icon (such as Ipswitch in Figure 33-7), and click OK Whichever dialog box you use to make the connection, your PC dials up a connection to the Internet (if you aren t already connected), and WS_FTP logs you into your chosen server You can watch the various command exchanges take place between client and server in the scrolling area at the bottom of the main WS_FTP window Once you are logged in, your computer s files appear on the left side of the window, and the FTP server s folders appear on the right (as shown in Figure 33-6) You can now do any of the following: I To manage folders and files, see the upcoming section, Choosing Folders, and Managing Folders and Files I To transfer files, see the upcoming section, Transferring Folders and Files I To disconnect from the site, click the Disconnect button at the bottom left of the WS_FTP window I To disconnect from the site and exit WS_FTP, click the Exit button
