Creating Code 39 Full ASCII In .NET Framework
Using Barcode encoder for Visual Studio .NET Control to generate, create Code 3 of 9 image in .NET applications.
The preceding code is equivalent to the one that started out the chapter The only subtleties are in the arguments to the jsfajaxrequest function The first argument, this, is the JavaScript DOM element that will be set as the source in the onevent callback The second argument, event, is the JavaScript DOM event object This will be passed to the jsfajaxrequest function directly from the browser The last argument is a JavaScript object with properties for most of the tag attributes on <f:ajax>, as shown in Table 12-4 Even though the behavior and API for the JavaScript way of accessing JSF Ajax capabilities is very similar to the tag way of accessing these features, the fact that you can access the features from anywhere within JavaScript gives you enormous power

This chapter has exposed you to everything you need to know to get work done with JSF and Ajax Most applications can do quite a lot with just these fundamentals The advanced user would be well served by exploring the following topics in greater depth Using a flashy JavaScript effects library with JSF, such as Scriptaculous This library can be found at http://scriptaculous/ A great example of the power of combining such a library with JSF can be found in the PrimeFaces JSF Component Library at http://primefacesprimecomtr/en/ Using the published XML schema for the Ajax response format to talk directly with the server-side component tree Because both the HTTP POST request format and the XML schema for the response are fully specified, it is possible to go very deep into manipulating the server-side components with JavaScript or other client technologies such as JavaFX Exploring how iterating components, such as <ui:repeat> and <h:dataTable>, can benefit from Ajax interagtion For example, it is pretty simple to make it so a single cell in a data table can be updated in a very attractive style using effects from Script aculous and the JSF Ajax library

CHAPTER
Building Non-UI Custom Components
hapter 11 presented the easiest way to extend Faces, by providing custom UI components that page authors can easily use In addition to allowing custom UI components, Faces has many non-UI component extension points that have no visual representation for the end user These non-UI component extension points are far less frequently used, but when you need to use them, you really need to use them For example, if the existing set of validators and converters doesn t meet your requirements, you need to provide a custom solution, as shown in 8 In a more advanced case, if you want to seamlessly integrate JSF into an existing dependency injection scheme, such as Spring, implementing a custom EL resolver is the easiest approach An example of this scenario is shown later in this chapter Both of these examples can only be accomplished by using one of the non-UI custom component mechanisms described in this chapter
Non-UI Custom Components and Decoration in JSF
Table 13-1 shows the complete alphabetical listing of the non-UI custom component classes and interfaces defined in the JSF specification The Decoratable column indicates whether this particular class or interface enables decorating the existing implementation rather than wholly replacing it The decorator pattern enables a developer to override as much, or as little, functionality of an existing class as desired, while leaving the rest to the real implementation The pattern may as well have been named customizer, but that word already had too many meanings in the software lexicon The particular implementation of decoration practiced in the JSF specification uses the presence of a single argument constructor in the decorating class to decide if the user wants to leverage decoration or not For example, the code to decorate the standard ResourceHandler is shown next
import javaxfacesapplicationResourceHandler; import javaxfacesapplicationResourceHandlerWrapper;
