Normally, Mac OS X detects the monitor automatically and shows the Displays pane of the Preferences dialog box so that you can configure the monitor The Displays pane appears on each monitor with settings appropriate to that monitor Figure 2-6 shows the Displays pane for an HP 52 monitor If Mac OS X doesn t open the Displays pane, open the menu, click System Preferences, and then click Displays In the new monitor s Displays pane, choose settings for the monitor In the other Displays pane, click the Arrangement tab to display its controls (see Figure 2-7), and then drag the icon for the new monitor to show its physical placement relative to the other monitor
