The traditional syslogconf file can be used with the new rsyslog daemon without any modifications rsyslogd s configuration file is named /etc/rsyslogconf As mentioned earlier, rsyslogd relies on the use of templates, and the templates define the format of logged messages The use of templates is what allows the use of a traditional syslogconf configuration file syntax to be used in rsyslogconf Templates that support the syslogd log message format are hard-coded into rsyslogd and are used by default A sample template that supports the use of the syslogd message format is shown here:
