Connecting a Mac to a Shared Folder
Once you ve set up one or more Macs to share folders, you can connect the other Macs to the shared folders in moments: 1 Open a Finder window For example, click the Finder icon in the dock 2 In the sidebar, expand the Shared category if it s currently collapsed 3 Click the Mac that s sharing the folder 4 Click the Connect As button to display the Connect As dialog box, shown here
5 In the Name text box, correct the user name if it s wrong (This needs to be the user name for the Sharing user account on the other Mac, which is not necessarily the same as the account name under which the user is logged on) 6 Type the password in the Password text box 7 Select the Remember This Password In My Keychain check box if you want to store the password This is normally a good idea for regular connections 8 Click the Connect button The Connect As dialog box closes, and Mac OS X establishes the connection The Mac can then work with files and folders as usual in the folder that you have connected it to NOTE To disconnect from a shared folder, open a Finder window, and then click the Eject icon next to the shared folder in the sidebar Usually, though, you ll probably want to simply leave the shared folder connected until you log out from your Mac or shut it down So far, so easy but what if you want the Mac to connect to the shared folder automatically at login, so that you don t have to dredge through the Finder Follow these steps: 1 Connect to the shared folder as described above 2 Open System Preferences For example, click the System Preferences icon in the dock or choose Apple | System Preferences
