drop-down lists
The input tag creates the majority of form controls However, other controls work within a form The <select> tag creates a drop-down list of choices for the user Drop-down lists are a good method to deliver a large range of choices without taking a lot of screen space A common use of drop-down lists is to create a list of states To create a drop-down list, start, name, and close a <select> tag Within the <select> tag, add <option> tags You will need one for each option in the list The contents of the <option> tag are displayed in the list Typically, the first choice provides a direction to the user Alphabetize the remaining options to make it easier for your users to find Code Block 7-9 shows a list box containing colors
Code BloCk 7-9
<select name="favColors"> <option>Pick your favorite color</option> <option>Black</option> <option>Blue</option> <option>Green</option> <option>Orange</option> <option>Red</option> <option>Purple</option> <option>White</option> </select>
By default, HTML will send the contents of the selected <option> to the action script Each <option> value may include a value attribute Use the value attribute when the form is to send data other than what the list displays
