Much of the power and flexibility of the Apache web server comes from its use of modules to extend its capabilities Apache is implemented with a core set of directives Modules can be created that hold definitions of other directives They can be loaded into Apache, enabling you to use those directives for your server A standard set of modules is included with the Apache distribution, though you can download others and even create your own For example, the mod_autoindex module holds the directives for automatically indexing directories (as described in the following section) The mod_mime module holds the MIME type and handler directives Modules are loaded with the LoadModule directive You can find LoadModule directives in the httpdconf configuration file for most of the standard modules
