Loading Maya Cloth
Maya Cloth usually loads automatically when you start Maya Unlimited However, depending on the previous settings, Maya Cloth may need to be loaded manually using the Plug-in Manager Here is how you can load/unload Maya Cloth:

Choose Window | Settings/Preferences | Plug-in Manager The Plug-in Manager window will open In the Plug-in Manager, locate CpClothPluginmll You can check/uncheck the Loaded check box to load/unload Maya Cloth If you want Maya Cloth to automatically load every time you open Maya, check the Auto Load check box Close the window To determine whether or not Maya Cloth is loaded, click the drop-down arrow for the menu selector s list at the top left of the Maya interface If you find Cloth in the pulldown menu, select it Now you should have menus in the menu bar specifically for cloth simulation work-flow

Important Maya Cloth Concepts
As you begin to work with Maya Cloth, it is important to realize that you cannot model the cloth using traditional modeling techniques and simply convert the geometry to Maya Cloth Instead, you must go through a process of designing a cloth garment by sewing, or seaming, together a series of panels to define where the openings in the resulting garment will be This is very similar to the way that a tailor or seamstress works with fabric to manufacture clothing in real life Figure 26-2 shows the panel, seams, and the resulting garment

Panel Determines where the cloth object starts and ends from selected NURBS
curves It has a default cloth property automatically attached to it The cloth property has attributes for how the particular panel behaves, such as how cloth resists bending or stretching, as well as for scaling, thickness, and friction You can modify this default cloth property or create an entirely new one Details are given in the tutorial later in this chapter
Seam Connects two separate cloth panels to create a garment Panels are seamed at
the adjoining curve of those two panels Those two panels must share the same curve at the adjoining edge in order to make a seam Seam can be edited to increase or decrease the crease to control the seam appearance
Garment A collection of polygon cloth objects created from panels When you create
Garment, you see the shape of the cloth, which is a polygon object with triangle faces This is the actual cloth object that you simulate It has two nodes connected to it, cpStitcher and cpSolver You can change the resolution of the cloth using cpStitcher You use cpSolver to edit actual simulation attributes, such as a start frame and gravity To create garments, you can either first create and select a panel or generate them directly from NURBS curves
