PART V
The name of the only declared web method is listed at the top of the page click the HelloWorld link to review the SOAP request and response headers that are used to call the web method, as shown in Figure 28-8 EXAM TIP The Service help pages are great for getting the WSDL document (the WSDL document will be explained in the WSDL section of this chapter) Click Invoke to see the XML document that represents the return value from the web method (see Figure 28-9)

The return data from the web method
28: XML Web Services
The default behavior when you call an XML web service directly from a browser is for the NET Framework to render the service as an information page, listing all the web methods that are defined in the service This Service page forms the basis for unit testing of the XML web service For more information on unit testing and debugging of XML web services see 25 The first thing you need to do with the XML web service is to change the namespace from http://tempuriorg/ to http://xxxyyy/, you would replace the URI with one for your organization to ensure that you have a unique namespace Adding the attribute shown in bold in the following listing to the class definition will change the namespace of the XML web service
[WebService(Namespace="http://xxxyyy/")] public class Service1 : SystemWebServicesWebService { }
Figure 28-10 shows the display that results when the revised project is executed by pressing F5
Implementing the Web Methods
Now we need to define methods that are callable as web methods We will continue the metric and imperial conversion XML web service from the last section In order to make a method available to be called, it must be exposed as a web method The following code segment exposes the Ckm() and Cmi() methods: PART V
[WebMethod] public double Ckm(double mi) { } [WebMethod] public double Cmi(double km) { }
