EXAM TIP Windows Vista can be configured as a bridge if it has two NICs (one to a wired network and one to a wireless network) The bridge will allow computers in one network to access resources in the other network As an example, you may have a business using a small network with some wireless devices and another small network with wired devices If your WAP doesn t support bridging the connections, or you have configured an ad hoc network without a WAP, you can use a Windows Vista system to bridge the two networks together In order to bridge two networks together on a Windows Vista system, you need two NICs You can select NICs from the Network Connections window, right-click, and select Bridge Connections as shown in Figure 6-5 Once the bridge is connected, you will have a third connection labeled Network Bridge and your Windows Vista system will allow resources to be accessed via the bridge

TIP Typically a WAP is connected to the ISP The ISP provides an address for a DNS server to the WAP, and the DHCP service in the WAP provides this address to the clients As a reminder, the DNS server provides name resolution service for host names A small office or home WAP also includes firewall and network address translation (NAT) features, allowing it to protect internal clients and also provide access to the Internet through a single connection
