Managing Mail-Enabled Public Folders
As I mentioned previously, by default, public folders are not mail-enabled and are not accessible from outside the Exchange organization You may want public folders to be mail-enabled so that e-mail that needs to be read by multiple users within the organization can easily be accessed For example, Pennywise Resorts could have a customer service e-mail address of customerservice@pennywiseresortcom Rather than messages sent to this address being delivered to a single mailbox, delivering them to a mail-enabled public folder can make the message easily accessible to various individuals throughout the organization from the customer service agents who respond to the messages to management reviewing the messages coming in
Figure 4-7 You will receive an error message when attempting to delete a public folder without
deleting child folders

Creating and Managing Public Folders
Figure 4-8 Check to see if a folder is mail-enabled
To mail-enable a public folder, you need to use the Enable-MailPublicFolder command:
Enable-MailPublicFolder -Identity '<folderpath>' [-HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled <$true | $false>] -Server <servername>
TIP The HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled parameter should be set to $false only if you want internal users to be able to see the public folder in the global address list and other address lists You can see in Figure 4-8 that after running the Enable-MailPublicFolder command (which has no output on a successful run, except to leave you at a new command prompt) and looking at the MailEnabled attribute, the folder is now mail-enabled To retrieve mail-related information, you ll need to use the Get-MailPublicFolder command Running a simple command like the following will yield over 60 attributes:
Get-MailPublicFolder -Identity '<folderpath>'
Figure 4-9 shows the results of running the command, but piping the output through another cmdlet, format-list, which only shows the listed attributes In the case of Figure 4-9, the e-mail addresses assigned to the public folder are displayed

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007: A Beginner s Guide
To set mail-related attributes of a mail-enabled public folder, you ll need to use the Set-MailPublicFolder command The basic structure of the command is as follows Table 4-3 lists the various fields you can configure
Set-MailPublicFolder -Identity '<folderpath>' [attributes and values]

Purpose Specifies the name of the public folder Specifies recipients the public folder can receive messages from An empty value allows all senders Specifies distribution groups that can send messages to the public folder Specifies the mail nickname of the public folder Specifies the contacts for the public folder Specifies the values for the custom attributes Specifies whether e-mail will be sent to a forwarding address Specifies the display name of the public folder Specifies the domain controller on which to perform the modifications Specifies e-mail addresses for the public folder Specifies the e-mail addresses that will be affected by a recipient policy Specifies the forwarding address for the folder Specifies mailboxes that can send on behalf of the public folder Specifies whether the mailbox is viewable from addresses lists
