14:
Administrative Models
Exchange 2007 Creates a Security Hole When Installed on a Domain Controller
If you install Exchange 2007 on a domain controller, the Organization Administrator role will become a member of the Built-in Administrators group in the domain This will give the Exchange Organization Administrator role full control of all domain controllers in the domain If, however, you install Exchange 2007 on a member server, the organization administrators will become members of the local administrators group on the server and not the domain
Exchange Public Folder Administrator
The Exchange Public Folder Administrator role grants access to the new Public Folder Management Console tool and the underlying PowerShell PF-management cmdlets When granted this new Exchange Administrator role, a user will be able to do the following: Create and manage top-level Public Folder objects Run the public folder management commands in the EMS Administer public folders with the Public Folder Management Console
SP 1 Public folder administration features have been added in SP1
Exchange Recipient Administrator
The Exchange Recipient Administrator role is new to Exchange Although this has certainly been a desirable role to deploy, doing so has been a manual procedure in previous versions of Exchange Once you have delegated the Exchange Recipient Administrator role to a user account, the user will be able to do the following: Read all recipient object attributes in the Domain Naming partition of the Active Directory forest Write all recipient object Exchange-specific attributes in the Domain Naming partition of the Active Directory forest There is a catch to this role Exchange recipient administrators can only read and write the attributes of recipients in domains where the Setup /PrepareDomain switch has been run This is not an issue in domains where Exchange 2007 servers have been installed However, it is a concern in domains where there are no Exchange servers and there is an increased likelihood that Setup /PrepareDomain has not been run The recipients that can be created and modified by a recipient administrator are: Users Contacts Distribution groups (universal) Dynamic distribution lists Public folders

Exchange View-Only Administrator
The Exchange View-Only Administrator role, as its name implies, allows its delegates to view objects in the Exchange organization In Table 14-2 you can see that this role is significant and that the two other roles depend on it The Exchange Organization Administrators group is a member of the Exchange Recipient Administrators group The Exchange Recipient Administrators group is a member of the Exchange View-Only Administrators group The Exchange View-Only Administrator role can be thought of as the minimal role required for performing Exchange-related tasks Specifically, once you have delegated the Exchange ViewOnly Administrator role to a user account, the user will be able to perform the following tasks: Read the entire Exchange organization tree in the Configuration partition of the Active Directory forest Read every recipient object s attributes in the Domain Naming partition of the Active Directory forest
