Creating a Shared Folder for File Share Witness
Microsoft recommends locating the File Share Witness on a Hub Transport server, but it can be located on any server running Windows Server OS that s a member of the domain Follow these steps to create a shared folder for use as a File Share Witness: 1 Log onto the server with a domain user account that is a member of the local Administrators group on the server 2 Create a new folder It is recommended that you use a uniform and descriptive naming convention for the File Share Witness folder In this example, we call it FSW-LHWolfpack 3 Share the folder Assign the account or group that will be used to change the quorum type Full Control permission on the share This can be done from the Share tab of the folder s properties in Windows Explorer, or from the command line using the following command:
net share FSW-LHWolfpack=C:\FSW-LHWolfpack /GRANT:E12labs\ SetupAccount,FULL
In this command, FSW-LHWolfpack is the name of the shared folder C:\FSWLHWolfpack is the folder that is shared SetupAccount is the admin account used when changing the quorum type With the File Share Witness folder created and shared, and adequate permissions assigned, we can now change the quorum type on the cluster to use Node and File Share Majority
