Unattended Installations
Unattended installations of Exchange 2007 are run from the Windows command line using setupcom with specific parameters For some advanced configurations, an optional answer file can be called during installation Setupcom is a powerful tool for installing, modifying, and uninstalling Exchange 2007

Installing Exchange 2007
Unattended Install Answer File
An answer file for an unattended Exchange 2007 installation is not as comprehensive as the ini answer file used in Exchange 2003 For Exchange 2007, this is a txt file covering any combination of the following subset of configuration switches from setupcom:
Setupcom Configuration switches for use in an unattended install answer file CMSName CMSIPAddress CMSSharedStorage CMSDataPath NewCMS RemoveCMS RecoverCMS UpgradeCMS EnableLegacyOutlook CMSName CMSIPAddress ServerAdmin ForeignForestFQDN
PART II

PowerShell Installations
No PowerShell cmdlets contribute to the installation process specifically; however, executables, such as setupcom, can be called from a ps1 file or from PowerShell or the Exchange Management Shell Configuration of Exchange can be managed through the Exchange Management Shell With that combination, it is possible to generate PowerShell scripts to automate and provision Exchange 2007 installations
Finalizing Installations
The post-installation task list mentioned earlier represents some steps to take to finalize an installation Namely, entering the license key and running ExBPA In addition to that, it is recommended that you create a Windows and Exchange backup after verifying a successful installation
Post-installation Task List
After installation using the Setup Wizard, Exchange directs the implementer to a list of tasks to be completed after Exchange is installed As shown in Figure 4-26, the Exchange Server 2007 Finalize Deployment window in the EMC lists the tasks and configuration settings needed to complete the installation The content of this list depends on the roles that were installed on this server This is where the 25-character product key is entered as the first item on the list
Running the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer (ExBPA)
Running the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer is a recommended step at this point to verify the installation It s also a way to identify potential configuration or security issues The ExBPA appears on the Finalize Deployment list as the second task and should be executed

on any Exchange 2007 installation We will cover the ExBPA in more detail in 21 on troubleshooting
Verifying Installation Success
After installation has completed, it is a good practice to confirm that intended outcome There are a few places that an administrator can verify that an installation was successful, and a few tools are available to assist in this process
