In Figure 7-6 you see the Filters tab that allows us to configure the data filters to display at the top level of the dashboard display Note these dashboard filters are not connected to subsidiary scorecard or analytic components until we explicitly define such connections, as we ll discuss later in this chapter Figure 7-7 shows the configuration that supports the dashboard filters, which are simply connected to SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 Cube Dimension data elements

PerformancePoint 2007 dashboard filter data configuration
Microsoft Office 2007 Business Intelligence
working environments Through filters we can effectively view multiple dashboards (and scorecards) that display data only for chosen departments of the organization The filter-scorecard experience relies heavily on the hierarchical nature of Analysis Services cubes that can reflect the organizational levels and allows us to show different scorecards that are based on a single master scorecard
BI TIP
Interactive business intelligence displays that allow us to explore organization hierarchies are best constructed on OLAP multidimensional cubes The slice and dice look at our business processes by program and by department should be constructed on the multidimensional Analysis Services foundation of SQL Server 2005 Figure 7-8 continues the discussion of dashboard filter design
1 Click the Select Dimension control in the Filters Select Members dialog box
Figure 7-8
PerformancePoint 2007 dashboard filter select members
7: PerformancePoint: Dashboards, Scorecards, and KPIs 2 Choose a Dimension from the pop-up list, and click OK 3 Check the desired Dimension values to be used as filters
Figure 7-8 shows a browse capability that allows us to explore and choose data values to display in the filters It s surprising to see how quickly dashboard/scorecard designers learn this process when it becomes apparent that the OLAP cube data values reflect the organization in which they work Figure 7-9 shows how we finish the filter design process
1 Click the Tree icon to choose the display method 2 Click Next to finish the filter configuration process
Figure 7-9 shows that we can choose to provide only a SINGLE-SELECT list of filter values, which is appropriate when we want to limit the size or scope of the data

that will be displayed in the scorecards and analytic components Alternatively we can choose to provide a MULTI-SELECT list of filter values in the Multi-Select Tree control
Dashboard Display Con guration
Figure 7-10 shows off some of the configurable aspects of the dashboard display
1 Click the drop-down control at the top of the Sales Scorecard lower-left pane 2 Choose Edit Item on the pop-up menu 3 Click the Size tab in the Edit Item dialog box 4 Choose the Specify Width option button 5 Enter the desired width as a percentage of the dashboard page 6 Click OK

7: PerformancePoint: Dashboards, Scorecards, and KPIs
In Figure 7-10 you see that you can pretty easily control the actual or relative size of scorecard and analytic components within the dashboard display This is significant because the PerformancePoint Dashboard Design pane provides a straightforward user interface to adjust the sizes of components, which will later be published to SharePoint 2007 To be complete in our exploration of dashboard design, Figure 7-11 shows how we start the creation of a new dashboard
1 Click the Dashboard icon in the Scorecard Elements group, on the Create tab of
the Ribbon menu 2 Choose the desired dashboard layout 3 Click OK
