That completes the setup of the tables for the database These tables have all been created on the SQL Server enterprise database and they are shown next in Enterprise Manager Now, we can build the relationships between the tables

Now we will need to build the table relationships using the Database Diagrams feature of the ADP This will create the diagram in the enterprise database as well To get started, select the Database Diagrams Objects, then click on the Create Database Diagram in Designer option Add all of the tables to the diagram Drag the foreign key values to the primary keys When the first relationship is set up, a dialog box is shown for defining the relationship For these tables, we don t need to check existing data on creation, enforce replication, or cascade update of related fields But, we can enforce cascading deletes For example, when a basket is deleted, all of the related basket items can also be deleted If we delete basket items, however, we do not want to delete related items We do not want to delete shoppers if an order is deleted, and we might or might not want to delete baskets if an order is deleted it depends on what scenarios we think we might want to enforce for cascading deletes For each relationship defined, a constraint is set up in the enterprise database Figure 10-8 shows an example of setting up the relationship

Setting up the shopper-to-basket relationship
Microsoft Office Access 2003 Professional Results
Once all of the relationships are set up, we can save the diagram (as ECommerce) When you choose to save, you will get a message asking if the tables can be saved The reason this dialog box is displayed is to save the constraints for the tables
Cascade delete relationships are set up for all but the Shopper table to Order table relationship and the BasketItem table to Item table relationship If a shopper is deleted, the corresponding baskets, basket items, and order and payment data are deleted We might not want to delete order and payment data if a shopper is deleted This might be needed for later analysis With that last task, the database tables and relationships are set up We can now begin using the rest of the ADP capabilities to work with the database
Building Queries
Next, we are ready to begin building queries, stored procedures, and user functions for our database We will explore using the designer to create each of the query types
Query Creation
On the Queries Objects view, three options are listed for creating functions, views, and stored procedures in the Design view mode In addition, if you click the New
CHAPTER 10: Building an Access Data Project
button, there are three options for creating the queries using the Create Text feature These options allow us to bypass the traditional Design view and write the queries directly in a text format Access will give us some templates for creating the various types of queries and functions One downside to using ADPs is that the wizards are gone While the wizards aren t very useful when it comes to writing complex queries, they can be very handy for building lots of tedious select, update, and append (insert) queries If you still want to use the wizards for query generation, consider creating a second Access database (not an ADP) and linking the SQL tables in the database and then use the wizards to create the queries The queries can then be upsized to the database or the SQL copied directly to the ADP
Creating SQL Views
We will first start with creating SQL views These are our traditional select queries that were built in standard Access databases earlier in the chapter We are going to create four sample views for this exercise Table 10-7 lists the views and descriptions To get started, click the Create View in Designer option What pops up is a familiar dialog box for adding tables into the query As we reviewed in the last chapter, the Design view is different from the Design view in standard Access databases The first view will be a simple summary query that tells us how many baskets have been abandoned (eg, did not turn into orders) This is an example of a useful report for administrative purposes to analyze the sales follow-through of the site In the blank Design view, add in the Basket and Shopper tables From those tables, we want to display the IDBasket, DateCreated, Total, FirstName, LastName, and State fields Add those fields into the design grid In order to get the baskets that are not orders, we need to get all of the baskets that are not associated with orders The criteria for the IDBasket field needs to find
Query viewAbandonedBaskets viewAllOrders viewBasketItems viewBaskets viewOrders TABLE 10-7 Description Lists all of the baskets that were not turned into orders Lists all of the orders will be used for reporting all orders Lists all of the basket items will be used for building an order data entry form Lists all of the baskets will be used for building an order data entry form List all of the orders will be used for building an order data entry form
