Choosing fields for the form design
11:
Using the Form Wizard
TIP If the fields in the Available Fields list aren t in the order you want to see in the form, choose
the fields, one at a time, in the order you want them to appear You can also insert a field name in the Selected Fields list by selecting the field name above where you want the new one, and then selecting the field from the Available Fields list and clicking the right chevron Selecting them in the right order in the Form Wizard dialog box saves having to move the controls around in the form design If you select fields from more than one table, the Form Wizard creates a main form with one or more subforms Creating hierarchical forms is discussed in the section Creating a Hierarchical Form from Related Tables
Choosing the Form Layout and Style
The second Form Wizard dialog box offers a choice of six form layouts: Columnar, Tabular, Datasheet, Justified, PivotTable, and PivotChart (see Figure 11-5) When you select a layout, a sample appears in the left pane The first three are the same as the AutoForm layouts shown earlier The Justified layout resembles the Tabular layout, except all the fields appear on the screen without having to scroll The row of fields is wrapped to multiple lines, as necessary The last two arrange the fields as a PivotTable or PivotChart Select each layout option and look at the preview pane For the Current Workorders form, select the Columnar layout, and then click Next
NOTE When working with any of the Access Wizards, you can always click Back and return to the
previous dialog box to change a setting After you click Finish, you cannot return to the wizard to change that design; you must work in the Design window

Part II:
Retrieving and Presenting Information
The next dialog box shows a list of ten styles from which to choose These are the same styles you see when you click the AutoFormat toolbar button, as shown in the previous chapter Choose a style and click Next to reach the final Form Wizard dialog box In this last dialog box, you name the form and decide whether to view the data in the new form or to go directly to the Design view to modify the design After entering the form name, click Finish to save and open the form Once the wizard is finished, you can go about customizing the Current Workorders form for your special needs
What If the Form Is Blank
When you finish with the Form Wizard, the form opens in Form view unless you checked Modify the form s design in the final dialog box If all you see is the style background with no data or field names, one of the following could be to blame:
