You can place controls anywhere in the page or in the Report Header and Footer sections because they span the entire width of the page when you print the report If you grouped the records, the group header and footer, as well as the detail section, span only the width of the column So, place the controls that you want in the group sections within the width that you allow for the column When designing a multiple-column report, use the following formula as a guide to the page layout:

to Print Preview Then you can either enter a smaller column width, reduce the column spacing, or reduce the size of the side margins If you reduce the column width, be sure to change the controls in the group and Detail sections to fit
14:
Customizing Reports
The Columns tab of the Page Setup dialog box also shows the Column Layout option group, where you can choose the order in which the records are laid out on the page The default is Down, Then Across, which places records down the page in the first column to the bottom of the page, and then moves to the second column, and so on The alternative choice is Across, Then Down, which places the records across the first row to the right margin of the page, and then moves to the second row, and so on
Grouping Records in a Multiple-Column Report
When you create a multiple-column report with grouping levels, you keep the groups together in a row or column, depending on the Column Layout setting, when printing the report You can also have a group start in a new row or column by setting combinations of group and report properties
PART II
Starting a Group in a New Row or Column
If you grouped the records in the report and want to set each group apart when the report is printed, you can ask Access to start a new column or row with each new group by setting the Group section (header or footer) New Row Or Col property Your choices are as follows: None Lets the setting in the Page Setup dialog box and the available space on the page determine the row or column breaks Before Section Starts printing the group section (usually the header) in a new row or column, and then prints the next section (usually the Detail section) in the same row or column After Section Starts printing the group section in the current row or column, and then prints the next section in a new row or column This option can be used to print the group headers alone in the first row or column, and then print the Detail section in the second row or column Before & After Starts printing the group section in a new row or column, and then prints the next section in a new row or column This option can be used to cause the information in the Group Header section to stand apart from the information in the Detail section You might have to play around with combinations of the Column Layout options in the Columns tab of the Page Setup dialog box and the New Row Or Col group section property settings to get the effect you want in the report
