If the macro is not signed, you should make sure that you can trust the source before enabling the macro Note that you can continue working with the database without enabling the macro You may see a message indicating that the signature is not trusted if you have not added the macro source to your Trusted Publisher list You should not enable any macros with invalid or expired signatures Both of these problems can result from someone tampering with the macro If the signature has expired but you have safely used the macro in the past, it is probably safe to enable it

Choose from the four options: Disable All Macros without Notification Blocks all macros and does not display a security warning However, if you do trust some documents even though they have unsigned macros, put those documents in a trusted location Disable All Macros with Notification (Default setting) Notifies you with security alerts that some macros are unsigned You can choose which ones to trust Disable All Macros Except Digitally Signed Macros Macros from trusted publishers can be run, but you are alerted if you have not added the publisher to your trusted list Enable All Macros (Not Recommended; Potentially Dangerous Code Can Run) Allows all macros to run and can pose a problem with macros from hackers or other intruders

25:
Secure a Database
NOTE A fifth option may be offered: Trust Access to VBA Project Object Model This option is
for developers only Developers create macros, VBA code, ActiveX controls, add-ins, and other application extensions for use by others After making your choice, click OK twice to return to the database
Trusting Add-Ins
Add-ins, also called application extensions, are functions that add special features to the Access program For example, database templates, XML schemas, and Smart Tags are addons that extend the usability of Access You can use the Trust Center to see which add-ins are currently installed on your computer
PART IV
Add-ins are grouped in four categories: Active add-ins are registered and currently running in your database Inactive add-ins are in your computer but not currently loaded Document-related add-ins are template files that are used by currently open documents Disabled application add-ins were automatically disabled because of the problems they caused, such as crashing the program The Trust Center enforces the same criteria as for macros with respect to validity, current digital signatures, certificates, and trusted publishers
Part IV:

Declare No Phishing
Phishing is a technique used online by crooks in an attempt to get you to come up with personal information They use all sorts of tactics such as pretending to be a wellknown company, a bank, or even the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) They are looking for your name, address, and phone number, any password or Pin Identification (PID), a bank account or credit card number, or even your Social Security Number With that information, the criminal can assume your identity and empty your bank account, take out new credit cards in your name, and perpetrate a lot of other scams Office 2007 has some new security alerts that display when it suspects phishing See the Help topic How Office helps protect you from phishing schemes for more information
To change add-in security settings, open the Trust Center window and click Add-ins You will see three options: Require Application Add-ins to Be Signed by Trusted Publisher Checks the file containing the add-in for a digital signature If the publisher is not in the Trusted Publisher list, the add-in is not loaded and you will see a message that it has been disabled Disable Notification of Unsigned Add-ins (Code Will Remain Disabled) Available only if you have checked the first option Then unsigned add-ins are disabled with no notification Disable All Application Add-ins (May Impair Functionality) Choose this option if you don t trust any add-ins You will see no notice that they were disabled
