Web Parts Zones
A Web Parts zone can be configured on a Web Parts page to contain, control, arrange, and format a Web Part A Web Part placed in a Web Parts zone can be customized, located, added, or omitted by the user in their browser However, not all Web Parts must be placed in a Web Parts zone, only those you wish to allow the user to have control over When a Web Part is placed into a Web Parts zone, the properties of the Web Part are placed in the content database associated with MOSS and not in the ASPX page itself By locating a Web Part in a Web Parts zone, users are able to manipulate the Web Part(s) in that zone through their browsers On the other hand, the properties of a Web Part not placed in a Web Parts zone are placed into the ASPX web page and not into the content database, which, in effect, hard codes the Web Part as a fixed portion of the web page Figure 15-3 illustrates how Web Parts zones relate to a Web Parts page and how a Web Part relates to a Web Parts zone At the top (block A ) of the Web Parts page, a Web Part has been placed into the Web Parts page, but not into a Web Parts zone The ASPNET coding and properties for this Web Part are added into the coding of the ASPX Web Parts page definition
