A SharePoint dashboard is a specialized web page that is used to display the status of projects, budgets, and activities and provide users with links to other information In effect, a dashboard is a summarized information web page that provides a quick look at where things are A SharePoint dashboard can be created from scratch if you know the Web Parts needed and can be arranged as you wish However, the dashboard web page template includes most of the Web Parts you need to build a good starting point dashboard The SharePoint dashboard web page template includes the following Web Parts, in addition to the related filter Web Parts associated with them: The Apply Filters Web Part This Web Part displays an Apply Filters button that users can click to filter the data on the page Contact Details Web Part This Web Part displays the contact information of the administrator or owner that users can contact regarding the page

Like virtually all SharePoint pages, a dashboard page is created by adding and configuring the Web Parts needed to provide users with relevant information To create a SharePoint dashboard web page, perform the following steps: 1 Navigate to the home page of the Report Center site to which you wish to add a dashboard web page 2 On the Report Center s home page, click the Dashboard heading in the Quick Launch menu to open the Reports Library page (see Figure 21-29) 3 Click the New button on the navigation bar and choose Dashboard Page from its drop-down menu
