Note
When searching, you must enter the full, exact name or code to get results
Notice that no matter where you drag and drop members, they are always added to the root of the collection Members are added to the collection based on the structure of where they come from If you were to add consolidated members from an explicit hierarchy, and that hierarchy already had a ragged structure, when you bring the members to the collection, that ragged structure is maintained Also note that on the bottom left of the page is a Clipboard you can use to copy and paste members into the collection if you decide not to drag and drop To copy a member to the Clipboard, click the member in the left pane and then click the Copy to clipboard button Then click the location in the right pane and click either the Paste as child or Paste as sibling button Similar clipboards exist in other areas of the application; see 7 for instructions for moving data in hierarchies these same instructions apply to collections
Creating Hierarchies by Using Web Services
While there are two types of hierarchies discussed within this chapter, we have only provided a derived hierarchy example here Explicit hierarchies can be created as part of the MetadataCreate operation
Creating a Derived Hierarchy with the MetadataCreate Operation
Derived hierarchies are created as a series of connected attribute levels Each of these levels must be related properly within the system or the hierarchy will not be created While creating derived hierarchies within the UI will limit the entities or hierarchies available at the current level, creating derived relationships within the web service does not provide this information until the error response is returned The following operation creates a three-level derived hierarchy that groups Products by Line by Manufacturer
public OperationResult CreateDerivedHierarchy(string ModelName, string DHName) { // Create the request objects MetadataCreateRequest request = new MetadataCreateRequest(); requestMetadata = new Metadata();
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Master Data Services
requestMetadataDerivedHierarchies = newCollection<DerivedHierarchy>(); //Create the initial derived hierarchy container DerivedHierarchy dHier1 = new DerivedHierarchy(); dHier1Identifier = new ModelContextIdentifier { Name = DHName, ModelId = new Identifier { Name = ModelName } }; dHier1Levels = new Collection<DerivedHierarchyLevel>(); //Level 1 Product DerivedHierarchyLevel DHLevel1 = new DerivedHierarchyLevel(); DHLevel1LevelNumber = 1; //Levels will default to invisible without explicitly setting //visible to true DHLevel1IsVisible = true; DHLevel1Identifier = new DerivedHierarchyContextIdentifier { Name ="Product" }; DHLevel1DisplayName = "Product"; DHLevel1ForeignType = HierarchyItemTypeEntity; DHLevel1ForeignId = new Identifier { Name = "Product" }; dHier1LevelsAdd(DHLevel1); //Level 2 Line DerivedHierarchyLevel DHLevel2 = new DerivedHierarchyLevel(); DHLevel2LevelNumber = 2; DHLevel2IsVisible = true; DHLevel2Identifier = new DerivedHierarchyContextIdentifier {Name = "Line" }; DHLevel2DisplayName = "Line"; //For standard MDS derived hierarchies all additional levels //will have the foreign type of DBA DHLevel2ForeignType = HierarchyItemTypeDBA; DHLevel2ForeignId = new Identifier { Name = "Line" }; //Provide the ForeignEntityID Connector for this DBA entity DHLevel2ForeignEntityId = new Identifier { Name = "Product"}; dHier1LevelsAdd(DHLevel2);
