Local security templates can be applied in two manners: through a graphical tool called Security Configuration and Analysis or through a command-line tool called SECEDIT Both have their uses Both can be used to analyze and configure a system based on a security template Security Configuration and Analysis is an MMC snap-in that provides a graphical view to system configuration and analysis This can be quite useful, since it relies on the same interface that you use to either create templates or modify Group Policy Objects The snapin has already been applied to your new Security console This gives you a single tool to create, modify, apply, analyze, and import security policy settings To analyze a computer and compare it to a given security policy, use the following procedure: 1 Right-click Security Configuration and Analysis inside your security console, and select Open database 2 In the Open Database dialog box, either locate the appropriate database or type a new database name, and then click OK The default path setting is DOCUMENTS\ SECURITY\DATABASES 3 Next, you will need to select the security template you want to use for analysis This must be a template that has been prepared in advance Select the appropriate template and click OK 4 To analyze your system, right-click Security Configuration and Analysis, and select Analyze Computer Now
