Answer File
A key component in a Vista deployment is an answer file This contains information necessary to complete a mass Vista deployment The deployment process requires five basic steps: 1 Create a new answer file 2 Add components to the file 3 Change values or settings in the file 4 Validate the file 5 Save the file to distributable media
Create the Answer File
First, you must build a catalog (a binary file containing the states of all settings and packages in the Windows image) and then a blank answer file
3:
Deploying Windows Vista
1 On your technician computer, insert the Windows Vista DVD 2 From the desktop, navigate to the DVD s \sources directory 3 Copy installwim from the product DVD to a location on your technician computer This will probably take a few minutes because installwim is a couple of gigabytes in size 4 Open Windows SIM, as shown in Figure 3-6 5 From your desktop, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Windows AIK, and then click Image Manager 6 On the File menu, click Select Windows Image
Figure 3-6 Use Windows SIM to create the answer file, which is a key component of a deployment
Microsoft Windows Vista Administration
Figure 3-7 Select the image of Windows Vista you wish to use
